Motorists are warned ahead of vital works set to close a section of the M74.

Both the southbound and northbound carriageways at junction 5 Raith will face overnight closures between the off-slip and on-slip roads for essential bridge joint works.

On weekdays over a three-week period starting on Tuesday, May 9, a diversion route for each closure will be in place via the Raith roundabout.

The works are planned to be carried out in two phases and the road will reopen at 6am each morning.

Phase 1

The M74 southbound carriageway at junction 5 Raith, between the off-slip and on-slip roads, will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am for seven nights on the following days:

  • Tuesday, May 9 to Friday, May 12 (four nights)
  • Monday, May 15 to Wednesday, May 17 (three nights)

Phase 2

The M74 northbound carriageway at junction 5 Raith, between the off-slip and on-slip roads, will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am for seven nights on the following days:

  • Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19 (two nights)
  • Monday, May 22 to Friday, May 26 (5 nights)

The overnight closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential bridge joint works are undertaken and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Roads Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of the route.

The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland and Police Scotland.
