Glasgow nightclub Kokomo celebrates 10 years in pictures

Kokomo on West Regent Street has been a favourite among the city's revellers since it first opened in 2013.

Famously hosting Madonna and her crew in December 2015, several other celebrities have been spotted in the venue over the years.

Operations manager Brendan Curran told the Glasgow Times Madonna had booked out the whole club for the wrap party after the European leg of her Rebel Heart Tour.

The 42-year-old, who was managing the venue that night, described the scene as "hilarious".

He said: "One of her backing dancers was scooting around the club on a skateboard having a great time.

"The most shocking thing was how small Madonna was- she was absolutely tiny.

"They were all really lovely, they were all very pleased and they were really respectful."

Another memorable night working in the club for Brendan was when legendary DJ Pete Tong played a set shortly after the club opened in 2013.

Brendan said: "We got him to come up and do a set in the main room because he had a gig on in the Hydro."

On one occasion, three celebrities showed up at the club on the same night.

Brendan said: "It was a weird night and I don't know how it happened. We had Ashley Roberts, Joey Essex, and Chesney Hawkes all on the same night.

"It was very surreal to see these three vastly different celebrities coming in and having a great time.

"I have no idea how they ended up here, they all seemed to arrive separately and it was very bizarre."

Looking back on the past decade, Brendan says it's not the celebrities that have made the club what it is.

He said: "The past 10 years have gone by in the blink of an eye, it's been a tremendous run, it's a great club.

"And it's really the people that have made it - past staff, managers, students, and customers.

"It's not the famous people that stick in my mind and there's been a few of those who have walked through the doors.

"It's the regular customers. The same faces that come in two, three days a week over the past six or seven years.

"They're the ones you look forward to seeing night to night."

Nightlife has changed over the years with social media and camera phones, but Brendan says the connections people make at the club are still strong.

He said: "Nothing will ever replace going out and listening to your favourite records played really loud on a state-of-the-art sound system and dancing with your friends."

Pictures spanning a decade of Kokomo reveal ten years of crowds flocking to the club for a night out.

Brendan said: "The focus is now on another ten years. It's still a super popular venue."
