A Glasgow restaurant loved by Rangers and Celtic players has announced its shock closure today.

Zinfandel, based in the Southside of the city, was renowned for its fusion of Scottish-Croatian food and was visited by the likes of Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic, and Celtic’s Liel Abada, Josip Juranovic and Matt O’Riley.

Croatian brothers Marko and Mate Curic opened Zinfandel in Strathbungo at the start of 2020. Speaking exclusively with the Glasgow Times in 2022, the brothers revealed that they decided to open the restaurant due to the popularity of Croatia as a holiday destination and the lack of similar restaurants across the UK.

However, the gastro pub took the Facebook earlier today to reveal the "hard decision" of closing the premises permanently.

Taking to the social media platform, they wrote: "We would like to announce that Zinfandel has closed down permanently.

"This was a hard decision to make as we had the best time here in the last four years and we are beyond grateful to all of you for your support.

"We would like to thank our loyal staff for being a part of this incredible journey with us.

"Thank you to the communities of Strathbungo and Shawlands for making us feel so welcome and at home here."

The pub added that they wanted to thank their customers over the years, who they admitted that they will miss "so much".

They said: "The biggest thank you to all of our lovely customers who have supported us from the start! We are eternally grateful to you and we will miss you all so much."

Fans of the pub shared their sadness over the news.

Commenting on the post, one person wrote: "Sad news. I’ve enjoyed some really lovely meals and great service here. All the best to all the team."

While another said: "A big loss to Pollokshields, great food, wonderful staff, great vibe."

A third added: "So sad to hear this. Will miss our wee taste of Croatia in the Southside."

The pub's sister restaurant The Auld Smiddy Inn in Pitlochry will remain open.
