RANGERS have taken former Hearts star Marius Zaliukas on trial as boss Ally McCoist looks to bolster his defensive options once again.

Zaliukas has been without a club since leaving Tynecastle in the summer and joined the Gers at their Murray Park base yesterday as he looks to win a deal with the League One leaders.

McCoist has spoken of his desire to bring Bosnian stopper Boris Pandza to the club in recent weeks but his switch to Glasgow has stalled.

He has now begun running the rule over Lithuanian Zaliukas, who spent seven successful years in Gorgie before the Jambos' financial problems spelled the end of his time in the capital.

As well as being on the lookout for another centre-back, McCoist - who has already added Bilel Mohsni, Richard Foster and Steven Smith to his defensive pool this summer - remains keen on bringing another striker to Ibrox to further strengthen Gers' ranks.
