STEVEN LAWLESS is determined to play an integral part in a third successful Premiership season for Partick Thistle after committing his future to the club for another year.

The winger has become the latest Firhill star to sign on the dotted line as boss Alan Archibald continues putting his plans in place for the new campaign.

Lawless enjoyed another fine season in red and yellow as the Jags finished eighth in the Premiership this term.

And the 24-year-old can't wait to get back down to business as Thistle look to continue moving in the right direction in the top flight.

Lawless told SportTimes: "I am pleased to have signed for another season and hopefully I can kick on again and improve on the season that I have had this year.

"Overall, I think it was a good season for me and an improvement on the one before, so if I can keep doing that then that is the main thing. That is what I am aiming to do.

"I do look at the stats and see if I am contributing and I am happy with the amount of assists I have got.

"I have been a bit disappointed with the number of goals I have got, though. I should be doing better in that aspect and scoring more, so hopefully I can improve on that next season."

Lawless is the fourth Jags star to re-sign after Callum Booth, Christie Elliott and Abdul Osman agreed new deals earlier this month.

And the forward is confident Thistle will be in good shape ahead of the new Premiership campaign.

Lawless said: "There was a dip during the season, but we finished really strongly. We could have got top six, but with the position we were in, we had to make the best of it.

"We got a couple of wins and hopefully we can take that confidence into next season.

"It is part and parcel of football that people will leave, but hopefully we can bring in players of the same quality, or better, and keep improving as a team.

"We have got some good players here and we are looking to continue moving forward as a team and getting better."
