GARRY FLEMING has revealed he’s delighted he turned down St Mirren in the summer after securing a second major win for his beloved Sons.

New Paisley boss Ian Murray tried to convince the 28-year-old striker to join him at St Mirren Park.

But Fleming, whose main job is working for car valeting business, rebuffed the overtures and he’s glad he did by polishing off Saints last Saturday.

He said: “St Mirren were interested. Ian and me spoke but it wasn’t for me at the time and I was happy to stay at Dumbarton.

“It’s my home club, I live in Dumbarton and II get on well with the fans so I was happy to stay.

“I was certainly a good decision on Saturday, stepping up to score the winner from the spot.”

It was another great win for the Sons after defeating Hibs on day one and Fleming says they new-look squad is really clicking under Stevie Aitken.

He said: “Having beaten Hibs we knew we could follow up with another three points.

“They gaffer has been telling us that we shouldn’t fear anyone in this league and we just hope to carry it on.

“We’re not surprised by the start we have made considering the squad the gaffer is building. We have the belief home and away.

“There are only a select few left in the squad from last season and the new lads have done really well. We are all fired up.

“It’s a new start. We took a bit of time to get to know each other in pre-season but now we are kicking on.”
