Rangers manager Mark Warburton wants to keep Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem on loan at Ibrox for the second half of the Championship campaign

The midfielder has impressed since making the move north of the border in the summer but is due to return to the Emirates during the January transfer window.

The deals for Tottenham duo Nathan Oduwa and Dominic Ball are scheduled to last until the end of the campaign and Warburton is keen to retain Zelalem’s services for longer.

He said: "It's up to us to create an environment that those clubs feel is right for their players. That's our job. Because they won't lend us their assets unless they feel they are looked after here and developed here.

“I hope he is very much enjoying it, the relationships between the clubs are good and I hope very much that we can keep him.

"We always talk with Arsenal and we talk about how he is progressing, They watch him every game.

“These clubs are very, very professional. They always have representatives watching.

"They look at every touch the player makes, they look at data, runs made, jumps made.

“It's a detailed science now. They look at whether their assets are improving and it is up to us to make sure they get the information they need."

While Warburton is determined to keep his current Gers squad in place, he is also looking at ways to bolster his ranks for the second half of the season.

Former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Gai Assulin is still training with the Light Blues but no decision has been made yet on his future at Ibrox.

Warburton said: "Here's still here and training well. When you sign anyone, be it staff member or player, it's about getting the right decision and doing your homework, due diligence for both parties.

“We are looking at him and he is looking at us. It's up to us to make the call when it is appropriate."
