Brendan Rodgers finally got his man last night when Celtic completed the deal to get Scott Sinclair into the club after a protracted month of negotiations with Aston Villa.

But the Hoops boss is still looking to get another player in before Monday’s Champions League signing deadline.

The 27-year-old was set to complete a £4.5million deal subject to passing a medical with add-ons.

And he could be involved in Sunday’s curtain-raiser at Tynecastle, having featured for Villa in their pre-season schedule.

“Scott is obviously a player I know very well,” said Rodgers. “We will see over the course of the weekend. As a club we would hope to close something out at the weekend.”

Celtic were paired with Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva in yesterday’s draw and with ten days to go before the first leg is played at Celtic Park, Rodgers will look to have at least another one in as they go in search of the £20m bounty that a ticket to the competition brings.

Paddy McNair, the 21-year-old Northern Ireland internationalist, is also on Rodgers’ radar with Manchester United amenable to a loan deal for the player who can play in either defence or midfield.

“Ideally it would be two players,” said Rodgers, when asked about the number of players he’d like in before the Champions League deadline on Monday.

“Ideally I would hope one of them would be over the weekend. If the other one wasn't by Monday then hopefully not long after that.”

One concern for Rodgers going into a week on Wednesday’s game against the side who knocked out Olympiakos in the previous round, is the continuing injury problems he has.

Erik Sviatchenko is still believed to be at least ten days away from fitness while Patrick Roberts has a hamstring tear and is expected to be out now for anything up to three weeks, making him a doubt for the tie.

Jozo Simunovic has started work on the training ground but has not played a game since the end of January.

Dedryck Boyata is also out as is Nir Bitton, although Leigh Griffiths has been deemed fit after taking a knock on Wednesday night.

“Griff is ok,” said Rodgers. “Young Patrick will probably be out for up to three weeks.

“It is a slight hamstring strain which is unfortunate as he has been improving every day. Hamstrings can be up to six weeks so it could be worse.

"At a push we will be looking at the second leg. Hopefully he will be available for that.”

Meanwhile, Charlie Mulgrew has been given training facilities although it remains to be seen whether he is given a contract offer by the club.

Negotiations broke down with Mulgrew and Celtic at the end of the season but he is still out of contract.

"I don't know Charlie that well but he was a good servant to the club,” said Rodgers.

“His contract was up, he was looking to negotiate with the club and negotiations stalled.

He is without a club at the moment and asked if he would be able to come in and train for a couple of weeks until something is maybe going to happen for him further down the line for him.

"I have no problem helping out good people."
