YOU can get a lot of abuse as a high-profile footballer.

These days it’s not only some idiot on the street with too much to say for themselves, there is social media as well which can bring out the worst in people.

We’ve all had it. We all make mistakes, I made plenty myself, but while it’s a privileged life, it’s important to remember that we are human beings.

Poor Loris Karius. I was in Kiev for the Champions League final and my heart went out to the lad (inset).Well, it did after the match when I had calmed down. 

I’m a Liverpool fan and was desperate to see them win and, I must admit, when the goalkeeper made that first mistake I was punching the walls.

And then his night got even worse.

But Karius is like the rest of us. A person. And none of us are perfect I’m afraid. He will be hurting more than anyone.

The abuse he has taken has been a disgrace. Do these people not think he’s suffered enough? 

Goalkeeper, I have always thought, is a brave position to play. Errors happen and lead to goals. 

I’m sure he will come back stronger from this.
