I said right back at the start of the Hampden debate that there was only one national stadium and Scotland had to remain at the home of our game.

So I am delighted that the Scottish FA have decided to remain at Hampden and that we’ll see the ground improved to make it the venue we all hope it can be.

I know people will say I am old-fashioned but you have to look at the history of Hampden and what it means to Scotland. We couldn’t give that up.

Edinburgh is a wonderful city and Murrayfield is a wonderful stadium, but it is rugby. That is what it will always be.

Now that the SFA have decided to remain at Hampden, they have to make it better.

Well done to Lord Willie Haughey and Sir Tom Hunter. They have put their money in to ensure Hampden remains our home and that is fantastic. They are real football men and they want to see Scotland do well.

Scott Brown came out this week and was critical of the atmosphere and unless it is an Old Firm game or a big Scotland game, the noise just isn’t there around Hampden.

Look at the Scotland fixture in midweek. There were only 17,000 fans there and there was very little atmosphere.

So, money has to be spent to bring it up to scratch and make it a venue that the supporters enjoy visiting and that creates that Hampden roar again.

I know the finances involved make it very difficult, but now the SFA need to come up with a plan to improve Hampden and make it a place that fans want to visit and players want to play at once again.
