STEVEN GERARD has spoken a lot about the winning mentality he wants to see from Rangers this season so he will be pleased with the 4-0 victory against Dundee on Saturday.

I know he wasn’t completely satisfied with the performance but it was important that Rangers got the win in their first match since the defeat to Celtic.

Dundee aren’t as good as them but they still had to go out and apply themselves properly and that was the case. It was a good win for us.

It was brilliant to see Ryan Kent and Glenn Middleton get their first goals for Rangers at the weekend and both players will take so much confidence.

I think Kent needed it to be honest. It is clear to see that he is a right good player, he has got pace and he is direct.

Middleton has really taken his chance at Rangers and the manager clearly likes him and sees him as a part of his squad.

To come on and score for Rangers, especially at Ibrox, will be huge for him at just 18-years-old and that is a real positive for him and the manager.

But there was maybe a sense that he needed that strike to get his confidence levels up, especially in front of goal.

To score four goals with four different scorers, and have one chopped off wrongly, and have two getting their first goals for the club can only be a good weekend for Steven.
