FORMER St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson has returned to the Paisley club as their technical director after resigning as Queen's Park's head coach.

The 49-year-old, who spent seven years as St Mirren manager between 2003 and 2010, had been with the Hampden club since January 2014.

St Mirren chairman Gordon Scott felt that Alan Stubbs, who last just 77 days as manager after replacing Jack Ross this summer, would have benefitted from working with a technical director.

"We want to have someone within the football department who will be a constant presence," Scott told the official St Mirren website.

"The board have a vision of how they want the club to develop. At present, we have a plan but not the manpower to define and execute it.

"Gus is someone I worked with closely when I was on the board previously and he has the experience and knowledge we are looking for in the newly created role."

Queen's Park are inviting applications for their position of head coach and have set a closing date of October 2.
