It is two goals in two games for Leigh Griffiths and he is clearly trying to make his point that he deserves to be number one at the club.

But I have to say I don’t think there is a first choice striker at Celtic this season.

I think what Rodgers wants is for both of these guys to be pushing one another. He wants one breathing down the neck of the other in order to try and get both of them firing on all cylinders.

It seems strange for a team who have been renowned for their attacking flair and energy going forward that delivering the goals has been the problem this season.

I can see why Griffiths is sore at the minute. He is clearly frustrated to have been dropped from Scotland and then starting on the bench for the Europa League game against Rosenborg last week but all you can do in that situation is work your backside off.

You need to be on it all the time. You need to be the first guy out on the training ground. You need to show just how much you want it in everything that you are doing.

He will feel pretty good about himself given the fact that he has scored in back-to-back games – but he needs to keep doing that. He needs to keep producing.

There are not too many guys who score 100 goals for Celtic. It has always felt like a privilege to me to be in that company and I am sure Leigh will feel the same.

But if I were in his position and at the age he is now, I’d want to knuckle down and go and get to 150, go and get to 200.

He has just signed a new deal at the club so let him get the bit between his teeth and get to it.
