GARY HOLT insists Livingston’s main aim is still to avoid relegation this season – despite victory over Rangers taking them up to third in the Premiership standings.

Dolly Menga netted the only goal of the game at the Tony Macaroni Arena to clinch a memorable win against Steven Gerrard’s side.

It is the most eye-catching result of a remarkable campaign to date for Livingston and boss Holt, who replaced Kenny Miller in the dugout in August.

The Lions are 11 points ahead of bottom of the table Dundee but Holt was only focusing on the positives in terms of the performance.

He said: "We got a good goal from Dolly and in the second half we knew Rangers were going to have the ball and were going to come at us and with a bit of luck we could have had more goals.

"Dolly is a good player for us and he gets us up the pitch and he holds the ball well and he is awkward and is learning the tactical side of it all and he put in a shift for us.

"We give the players the freedom to do their job in the team and they all know their roles.

"The players played with a smile and I told them to go out and enjoy the occasion as long as they worked hard which they did.

"You are not going to turn up and win games easily you have to work hard and we limited a very good Rangers team to very few chances.

"We are seven games in and there are 31 games to go. I’ll enjoy tonight like everyone else. But until we were mathematically safe – that’s when I’ll start looking at what else we could achieve.

“Make no bones about it, we were the favourites to go down. We are still the favourites.

“We could lose seven games in a row. It’s early days.

“Enjoy today, we won and we stuck to our task. But then we put it to bed and look to next week.”
