I said last week in my column that the Rangers support would have been skipping their way into the start of their week.

It has all changed again this weekend but I am not going to gloat. Not yet.

The reason is simple – it can and will all change again.

As I said last week, it is ridiculously early to be making judgements on teams at this stage of the season. There is an awful lot of football still to be played and the time to make a call on anyone it when you are least ten games in.

And not before. There will be plenty of changes to the way the table looks at the minute because as the season kicks in, it becomes all about consistency.

I also think, too, that in terms of Rangers’ defeat to Livingston at the weekend we all look to the bigger team and point the finger but so often on a day like that, you overlook the work that goes into the result.

I coached at Livingston for ten months last season.

These are guys who work their socks off. They have a physicality about them, they have pace, they have strength and no-one knows too much about them.

They will not go down this season.

They are a solid outfit and they worked their backsides off to get that win over Rangers on Sunday.

Sometimes I think you need to applaud the way a team engineers a result like that and all the work that goes into it rather than simply playing the blame game.
