JORDAN ROSSITER hopes he can kick-on and establish himself this season after fearing he would never get back on the park during his months on the sidelines.

The midfielder has endured another injury hit term so far as he has been restricted to just one substitute appearance against Ayr United in the Betfred Cup.

But he turned in an impressive performance to help Steven Gerrard’s side to a 4-1 victory over Hamilton at the Hope Stadium on Sunday.

Now Rossiter is determined to go from strength to strength in the coming months as he bids to finally prove himself at Ibrox.

He said: “I feel good, but I know I still have a long way to go before I get back up to full fitness.

“That’s my first eighty minutes of the season in the bank but I have a long way to go.

“It’s been tough, I played against Hibs in the last game of last season and then I suffered an ankle injury over the summer which was a setback but these things happen.

“You start to think you’ll never get back to being involved with the first team but I’ve now managed to do that.

“We have a lot of injuries at the moment and now I have got my chance and hopefully I did okay against Hamilton.

“I was disappointed at the Hamilton goal as I thought I could have done better defensively. But the lads bailed me our and in the end the result was brilliant.

“This is where I want to be. I’ve had a difficult pre-season and struggled with injuries but to be involved against Hamilton was great but I have a long way to go until the end of the season and I need to get as many appearances as I can.”

The arrival of boss Gerrard in the summer was a major boost to Rossiter as he was reunited with his former Liverpool team-mate at Ibrox.

And the 21-year-old is thankful for the support he has had from everyone in Light Blue as he has embarked on the road to recovery once again.

Rossiter said: “He’s been brilliant and to put me in today after a few games – he has faith in me and I want to repay him and the fans who are still behind me.

“It’s been a tough road and I just want to pay everyone back who has been with me all the way.

“Yes – 100% I’m out to prove myself. I want to be a Rangers player and I can’t see anywhere bigger than here in my career.

“I’m lucky to still be here after my injury problems. I can’t lie – my development has been hampered by the injuries but I’m still only 21 and I want to be here and improve.

“The physio Stevie Walker has been fantastic with me and my family and everyone here.

“Every boss since I’d be been here has been fantastic with me and I just want to pay the club back.

“I don’t think about contracts or anything like that I just want to get back playing football and whatever happens after that happens. I just want to be happy on the pitch.”
