BARRIE MCKAY admits his focus is on club not country as he looks to establish himself for Swansea this season.

The winger earned call-ups to the Scotland squad during his time at Rangers as he was rewarded for his fine Ibrox form by then boss Gordon Strachan.

But he has yet to add to the solitary cap he earned as a late substitute in the friendly defeat to France at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Metz two years ago.

McKay has fallen out of the international picture following the appointment of Alex McLeish and hasn’t been quoted for a Dark Blues squad berth for some time.

The 23-year-old would like the chance to pull on the colours of his country once again but knows he must showcase his talents consistently in the Championship if he is to earn another shot on the international stage.

McKay told SportTimes: “If it came about I would be delighted but just now I am just focusing on my football here and taking it as it comes.

“If you are not playing well for your club and not doing the business then you can’t expect to be called up.

“If I am playing here and doing what I should be doing here then I don’t see why I can’t get myself back in. There are a lot of great players in there and changes of formation as well. I will take it as it comes, if it does come.

“I loved being part of it and I loved going away with the boys. It was a great group and even as a young boy it was great to go away.

“They pulled me out of my shell and spoke to me and there were no cliques or anything. It was a really positive time for me.

“I have never spoken to the manager but if he wanted to give me a call that would be nice! If I am doing it here, there is more of a chance with Scotland.”
