SPARTAK Moscow have been urged to appoint Russia boss Stanislav Cherchesov as their new manager to save their season.

The Russians will arrive in Glasgow for the vital Europa League game without a manager having sacked Massimo Carrera this week.

Russia boss Cherchesov, who gained huge plaudits for getting his unfancied country through to the quarter finals of the World Cup which they hosted, has been installed as the early favourite to take charge of the capital club.

And Spartak's former chief executive Yury Pervak reckons they should go for Cherchesov as quickly as possible and ask him to combine jobs.

He said: "Cherchesov is a great fit for the position of Spartak manager.

"He could easily combine the job as Spartak manager with his work with the national team.

"He has a strong charisma, knows how to find a common language with completely different players and also has a huge amount of experience behind him.

"My opinion about Cherchesov changed a lot after the 2018 World Cup. In a short period of time, he managed to hammer together an efficient team and achieved a truly remarkable achievement with the Russian team on the international arena.

"He's exactly the man Spartak need and he would be a great appointment."
