Ryan Christie is set to be offered a deal to prolong his stay at Celtic after Brendan Rodgers revealed talks are underway regarding a new contract at the club for the 23-year-old. Christie came off the bench to have a hand in all three of Celtic's goal against Hearts as the Parkhead side teed up a Betfred League Cup final date. The forward is in the final season of a four-year deal at the club and despite being a fringe player for his time at Celtic, Rodgers believes he still has something to offer the club. "He’s someone that of course we would look to commit to," said the Hoops boss. "The club have been talking to his representatives but I’m not aware of any movement. I tend to focus on working with the players. He is in his last year but we have had other players like Stuart Armstrong. My focus is on making them better as players, giving them a future here to be involved and be a part of. "Hopefully then the other stuff can sort itself out. He is definitely a player that we would love to keep. He is a fantastic player. You saw his contribution today. You saw it at Aberdeen when he was there. It was step-by-step but now is 23. "He is at a really good age to come in and have the personality to play at a big club. He did well against Leipzig so he can make a valuable contribution to this team.

“It’s been a process with Ryan. When I first came in, I felt he could be in and around the squad and he played some games.

“But for him to be able to give his best to Celtic and cope with the pressures of being at a big club, he had to go out and feel that pressure on a weekly basis.

“He went to a great club in Aberdeen with a great manager, so he felt that pressure playing.

“I always felt he could come back and then make a contribution because you need that personality to play for the big clubs and play in big games.

“Since he’s come back, he’s shown that. He’s come into games, he started games and you saw his impact.

“He scored a brilliant goal and was involved in two others.

“It’s all part of the development for him and it was great to see it." Rodgers, meanwhile, has revealed that there is no time frame on just when Leigh Griffiths will be fit and available again. The striker underwent further scans on a calf injury on Friday and the Celtic manager dismissed unsubstantiated social media rumours last week that Griffiths had been posted missing from the club. “I don’t know when Leigh will be back involved," said Rodgers. "He’s had some scans on one or two issues that he’s had.

“He’s now back looking to get training. He’s nearly clear of his calf injury, so once he can get his work done and get up to speed in training, we’ll assess it from there.

“I’ve no timeline on it. Hopefully, he can get back soon.

"If you play for big clubs you have to be in top condition and you have to work very hard to get back to that. We work with the players who are fit, ready and available. "The ones that aren’t, we do everything we can to ensure that we get them back as quickly as we can. So we hope that Leigh can be back because he is a very valuable player in our squad. He is a guy that can score goals, but it’s more than that. "There are other elements to our collective philosophy, with and without the ball, that everyone has to be ready to participate in. So he is rid of his calf injury but he has to really work on getting himself back to some level of fitness to come back in again." Celtic's win at the weekend continues their recent revitalised domestic form. A difficult opening spell of the season appears to have been weathered with impressive wins coming now against St Johnstone, Hibs and Hearts with Rodgers believing that the Parkhead side are on their way back to their be "I just think it’s time," said Rodgers. "You saw the second half today. You saw the games against Hibs and St Johnstone. The fluency and how dynamic was pretty evident. But there is still an awful lot of work to do. But it’s great to see guys like Ryan come in and have that impact. "Scott Sinclair was great when he came off the bench. Kristoffer Ajer hasn’t played for such a long time, coming into a game like that. Two very young centre-halves playing. Big static first half, but second half they were great and I think deserve to be in the final."
