IT is the stuff that dreams are made of. David Turnbull, lifelong Motherwell supporter, has had a week lifted straight from the pages of Roy of the Rovers.

The 19-year-old bagged his first senior goal for the club he grew up following last midweek against St Mirren, and he followed it up with a stunning 30-yard strike on Saturday to open his Fir Park account and give his team another crucial three points against Dundee.

It was a moment that he had played over countless times in his mind as he dreamed of strutting his stuff in the claret and amber, but when it finally arrived, the reality surpassed the fantasy.

“I’ve dreamt of that moment all my life, scoring at Fir Park and especially doing it the way I did it,” said Turnbull.

“My whole family were here to see it, my brother, mum, dad, papa, uncle, everybody. I’m sure they’ll all be buzzing.

“I’ve grown up my full life being a Motherwell fan and played with them since I was nine years old, so it’s always been my dream to play in the first team. That was a special moment, and it will stay with me for the rest of my life.

“I’ll be watching that back on replay every night probably. I don’t think I’ll score one much better than that in my career, but hopefully I do, you never know.

“We had a lot of chances before the goal and we didn’t take them. I’ve had a go and thankfully it’s went in.

“It’s been a great week. I scored on Wednesday but that was a better one, and it was an even better feeling scoring at Fir Park as well.

“It’s two massive wins for us. We’ve not been far off it, we just needed that little bit of luck and it’s finally starting to turn our way.”

One can only assume that it has simply slipped the mind of the Fir Park hierarchy that this prodigious young talent is out of contract at the end of the season. He was easily the best player on the park against Dundee, with his technical ability, appreciation of space, deft touch and eye for a pass making him stick out like a sore thumb in what was a fiercely contested encounter. It wouldn’t be a surprise if his dream week gets even better with the announcement of a new deal in the coming days.

Motherwell deserved the in in the end, chiefly on the strength of their second-half showing that pinned the visitors back for long spells.

With six points from six over the last two crunch matches against the bottom sides, suddenly Stephen Robinson’s men have a little bit of breathing space, meaning they can travel to Ibrox next week with the pressure off.

“I don’t see any reason why we can’t go to Ibrox and have a real go at Rangers,” said Turnbull.

“It will be a tough place to go obviously, but they haven’t been doing so well either, so hopefully we can go there and play well again and get a result.

“We’ve got a result against them already this season and hopefully we can do it again.

“It will be a tough test, but we’ll go and give it a good go.

“I’m not sure if I’ll be playing yet, but it will be brilliant if I am. There will be 50,000 people there and you won’t experience much better than that in your career.

“I don’t let things like that faze me in the way I play, although it certainly does!”
