I can’t believe we are still talking about things like coin-throwing in 2018, but the recent events have been absolutely shocking to anyone who cares about Scottish football and the image of our game.

There is absolutely no justification for the attacks on Neil Lennon, Zdenek Zlamal and Alfredo Morelos over the past week, and you just have to hope that the authorities really set an example by handing out hefty punishments to the culprits.

I am not a believer that strict liability would be the answer to clamping down on such incidents. It would be the clubs that suffer from loss of revenue, when in effect, there’s very little you can do about a few idiots who probably wouldn’t care what the cost to the club would be anyway.

For me, the only way to deal with it and to deter others from offending is to absolutely hammer the individuals responsible and send out a message that if you throw a coin or assault a player, you will be caught and you will face a heavy punishment.

No player or manager should have to be wary of being assaulted when they are simply doing their job, and I just hope that these recent incidents don’t become common-place in our grounds. There is absolutely no place for it in Scottish football.
