Odsonne Edouard can go on to be an even bigger player for Celtic than Moussa Dembele was.

At only 20, Edouard looked every inch a top quality striker against Leipzig on Thursday night.

I have always thought that he has something about him but on recent evidence I actually think that he can surpass what Moussa did at Celtic. He can really make a name for himself in Glasgow.

When he first arrived at the club I thought that he wasn’t as physically strong as Dembele but he has really brought that to his game. His power and physique were used to great effect against Leipzig but he is also faster than Dembele too.

He can be as good as he wants to be.

We are not at Christmas yet and already he has scored 12 goals. He’ll easily break the 20-goal barrier this season assuming there are no issues with injury but I thought that overall he looks as though he is living up to that big price tag.

He really rose to the occasion on Thursday night and he can be a huge player for the club over the next couple of seasons. He is still learning the game and he is doing it with an already hefty price tag on his shoulders but he really does have that bit of quality.

Another interesting point at the minute is the form of Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor.

The former has come from nowhere to really seize his chance and he worked his socks off against Leipzig. He has really worked hard to bolster his physical strength and it has made a huge difference to his game, although I also think that the loan spell at Aberdeen last term helped him kick on a bit too.

Having come into the team and played well, contributed through scoring goals and setting goals up, Christie now will have huge confidence and that is so important too when it comes to going into games. He has most certainly not looked like a bit-part player and it will be interesting to see how he kicks on from these last few weeks.

McGregor seems to be able to slot in wherever he is asked and he has a real intelligence about his play.

But both of these guys in the middle of the park have brought an energy to Celtic and the tempo of Celtic’s game has really risen because of that. They are moving the ball about quickly and there is a tremendous drive about the midfield.

The whole team were good collectively against Leipzig and what was notable was the spirit with which they played. The difficulties of the summer have faded and all of a sudden you are starting to see not just the results but the performances to go along with that.

It felt a lot like a Champions League tie on Thursday night and I don’t think anyone would doubt that Leipzig are a good side. They are not where they are in the Bundesliga for nothing.

But what the result does now is open the group up entirely for Celtic. They have a real chance in their two remaining games and what you have to do is set your sights on winning the game against Rosenborg in Trondheim and then the home game against Salzburg.

I felt at the very beginning of the tournament that the game in Norway could be the really vital game for Celtic. What they need to do is look to the confidence that they have taken from Thursday’s win and make sure that they go and get something from the game against Rosenborg.

Ideally then you would have Salzburg coming to Glasgow for the final game of the group having already qualified. In any case, though, it is still there.

Leipzig have a better goal difference than Celtic but with two games still to be played there are so many different scenarios that could be played out.

Essentially, Celtic need to simply focus on getting the results they want and then they can sit back and see how it plays out.

Kieran Tierney was excellent again on Thursday night and you just feel that all of a sudden this is a Celtic team with plenty about them. There is confidence throughout the side and you just sense that they are hitting top form now.
