Malmesbury boxer Kyle Bains has become the National Novice Champion after victory over Stevenage's Oliver Culling.

Kyle, 15 boxed in the 50-52KG category as he recovered from a slow start to claim the title.

Culling is a taller, more aggressive boxer and probably won the first round as Kyle was hesitant in letting his shots go at times.

In the second, Kyle came out with far more purpose and started to control the bout piling on the pressure and started to wear his opponent down.

Kyle then dominated his visibly tiring opponent in the third round and got some great right hand shots on the Stevenage boxer and it was no surprise to see Kyle's hand raised to become the new champion.

Elsewhere, it a great night for Malmesbury in Folkestone.

Lewis Roberts beat Folkestone's Rocky Hutton on a split decision despite a dominant second and third round.

On a better note, 10 year old Richard Pollak boxed well to open the show with a skills bout while Kerry McKenna had a return bout with Iris Cleak from Cheshunt.

The first bout a month ago resulted in a split decision win for Iris but on this occasion Kerry reversed the result after outboxing her opponents.

Tom Owen was last up and met south paw Ninja Bonsoh from Folkestone.

After a slow start, Tom was ruthless in the final two rounds and the referee had to stop the contest in the third as he was piling on the pressure with some big shots.
