Central midfield - Scott Brown

Glasgow Times:

Another player who hasn’t quite been reaching the levels of previous seasons but can still dominate a game on his day, Scott Brown’s 12-year stint at Celtic could be coming to an end. Brown is reportedly the subject of a bid from Australian A-League outfit Western Melbourne and could be on the move when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old still has the ninth-highest passing success rate in the Premiership of 91% and has the highest success rate when it comes to defensive duels of any midfielder in the league. While Brown’s performances do appear to be on the decline, the combative midfielder is still excelling at certain aspects of the game and is by no means a spent force.

Central midfield - Arnaud Djoum

Glasgow Times:

Hearts’ 29-year-old midfielder has been an excellent servant to the club during his three-and-a-half seasons at Tynecastle but it appears his time in Edinburgh is coming to an end. A regular feature in the Cameroon national squad, Djoum has been an important player for Hearts and his eye for goal has made hima standout performer for Craig Levein’s side.

Levein has already conceded that Djoum probably only has one last big contract left in him and Hearts cannot afford to give him the deal that he wants. The box-to-box midfielder will make a fine addition to any potential suitors and will be fondly remembered at Tynecastle for years to come.

Central midfield - Scott Allan

Glasgow Times:

Remember Scott Allan? You’d be forgiven if the diminutive playmaker had slipped off your radar, given the fact that he’s failed to make a single appearance for Celtic this campaign. But Allan was one of the most underrated players in the Premiership last season, when he spent the first half on loan at Dundee and the second at Easter Road.

Allan had the highest rate of key passes for players that played at least 800 minutes of Premiership football last season and only Celtic’s Patrick Roberts - who only played 552 league minutes last season - had a higher number of through passes per 90 minutes. Only Daniel Candeias managed more assists than Allan last season, and the 27-year-old would be a fine addition to just about any Premiership team.

Left wing - Gary Mackay-Steven

Glasgow Times:

Aberdeen’s mercurial winger is currently weighing up a move to American side New York City and is enjoying a good season under McInnes. The 28-year-old has always struggled for consistency since leaving Dundee United for Celtic back in 2015 but has rediscovered his old form this season and has cemented himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet at Pittodrie.

Mackay-Steven attempts the sixth-most dribbles per 90 minutes of any Premiership player this season and only Shay Logan has set up more shots for Aberdeen this season. A player approaching his prime years and capable of causing difficulties for any full-back in the league on his day.

Right wing - Chris Cadden

Glasgow Times:

The Motherwell winger has been ruled out with injury since November after tearing his tendon during his team’s 7-1 defeat at Ibrox but remains one of the most promising young players to come out of Fir Park in recent years. A regular feature for Scot Gemmill’s Scotland under-21s, the versatile midfielder looks set to have an excellent career as he continues to improve year on year.

Cadden has averaged 0.52 key passes per 90 minutes so far this season; more than the likes of Daryl Horgan, James Forrest and Ryan Christie. If Cadden can bounce back from his injury and perform as he has done in recent seasons, he could prove to be one of the summer’s bargain buys for whoever takes a punt on him.

Striker - Tony Watt

Glasgow Times:

St Johnstone striker Tony Watt hasn’t enjoyed a particularly prolific season in front of goal but has nonetheless caught the eye with his all-round play and has became a key part of Tommy Wright’s squad this campaign. Two goals for the season isn’t the most impressive return, but this misses the point: Watt’s work in holding up the ball and setting up team-mates saw him awarded Premiership player of the month in August and appears to have successfully relaunched his career after struggling for the last few seasons.

Watt has had 55 touches in the opposition box this season, the eighth-highest total of any Premiership player. This is testament to the striker’s hold-up play and there is little doubt that St Johnstone will be doing all that they can to keep the former Celtic player at the club. For now, though, he is free to talk to other sides and his excellent performances this season will surely have caught the eye of a few scouts.
