HOW many times have we said that serious action has to be taken because the misbehaviour from some supporters at some clubs cannot be allowed to go on?

But here we are again, and still nothing has been done to deter people using fireworks, throwing objects or invading pitches.

Do we need to wait until there is a really serious incident, until someone is seriously hurt, before the police take real action and the penny drops for these fans?

The latest incidents came on Wednesday night when Celtic supporters hurled pyrotechnics towards St Mirren keeper Vaclav Hladky and he had to receive treatment because of the noise.

There are plenty of police and stewards at games these days and there is CCTV cameras placed all around the stadiums in Scotland.

So, surely these people can be identified and punished? And I am not talking about being banned from going to matches, I am talking about jailing them and really making them think twice before doing something as stupid and dangerous as that.

If you know before you leave the house that if you throw anything onto the park, if you invade the park or you set off a flashbang or firework, that you could get jail time, that must surely act as a deterrent?

That is the only way you are going to cut it out and that has to happen sooner rather than later.

We are a country that is full of talk but until some action is taken, these incidents are going to continue to happen unfortunately.

It is the same situation for someone that runs on the pitch. If you do that, you know you will be inside for a few months, it is as simple as that.

Banning them from grounds is no use. Supporters will always find a way to get into a stadium, especially when they go away from home to see their team.

There is only so much that clubs can do. They pay police and stewards and put in place what measures they can to control the crowds at matches.

But you can’t look after every single person there, especially when one or two are so determined and so daft to carry out some of the acts that we have seen so far this season.

Clubs can’t be punished for the actions of their supporters and jail sentences are a stronger deterrent than a fine to the team you support.

It has got to come down to the police because we can’t allow this to go on. It will get to the stage where someone will be seriously injured, but it shouldn’t take that for people to change their mentality.

The police, the Scottish FA and the SPFL need to get together and find a solution here and put a strong action plan in place.

It was good to see Neil Lennon condemn the Celtic supporters on Wednesday night and say that it is unacceptable behaviour.

If your own manager is not happy with your conduct, then surely you must realise how stupid and irresponsible you are being?

We have seen this too many times this season and now is the time for decisive action to be taken.

All of these incidents come at a time when there are so many positives in Scottish football and when our game is back on the rise.

We have high-profile managers like Steven Gerrard and our game is being talked about in England again.

People are looking at the Premiership and we aren’t giving off a good impression because of daft refereeing decisions and some fans.

The majority can’t suffer because of the minority once again.
