CELTIC fringe defender Cristian Gamboa has been offered a deal by Deportiva Alajuelense, a club in his native Costa Rica.

The right-back has never managed to establish himself at Parkhead and made just 16 league starts in his three years at the club. He last featured for Celtic in a 1-1 draw at Motherwell in December.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the former West Brom, Rosenborg and FC Copenhagen stopper is certain to move on.

And he's been offered a return to Costa Rica by 29-times champions Deportiva Alajuelense.

Gamboa left Costa Rica nine years ago, ironically after being rejected by Deportiva Alajuelense, where he had a trial.

He's won 70 caps for his country, but failed to nail down a regular spot at Celtic, where he was usually back-up to Mikael Lustig, who also looks set to leave Glasgow this summer.

Gamboa has scored just one goal in his club career - for Norwegian club Fredrikstad eight years ago, but has netted three for his country.
