JON FLANAGAN reckons winger Ryan Kent is the inspiration for Premier League kids considering a switch to Rangers.

The 22-year-old has been a key part of Steven Gerrard’s squad since moving from Liverpool.

Gerrard is keen to do a deal to keep Kent at Ibrox next term.

And Flanagan has been impressed with the way he has handled life in Light Blue.

“I think it is just to be prepared,” he said. “It is proper men’s football, if you are coming from a younger age. It is a lot more intense, but they should know that because it is Rangers Football Club. It is a huge club so they have got to be prepared for that. It would definitely be a boost to keep him for next year and he would be a wonderful signing again if we can do that. All the lads love him in the changey and it would be great if we could get him to stay.

“I think he definitely is the example to follow and everyone knows that Ryan has been brilliant this year. I think he is an example to other lads that are trying to follow in his footsteps and make the step and come up here.

“I think it has been great for his career so far, it has been a big step. For young lads looking up to him, I think they should speak to him or look at his games and think ‘I need to do that’. He has been massive for Rangers and he has been great this year.”

Flanagan has come back into the side in recent weeks following a difficult spell on the fringes of Gerrard’s plans. But he has enjoyed his first campaign at Ibrox as he targets success next term.

“Yeah, it is a bit hectic at times,” Flanagan said. “But I have really enjoyed my time up here. At the start of the season I was playing a lot more games and then I obviously came out of the side.

“I have played the last few. Other than that, I have really enjoyed it and hopefully I can kick-on next year and hopefully the team can push on now. I think we can keep that up. Our main aim is to concentrate on Sunday and just keep the ball rolling. We have had three good wins. If we keep going and keep going, our aim is to get the last four wins. That is our aim now and from then we just need to keep building and building. Going into next year, we need to be bang at it from the get go.

“I think you are always looking at that but we won’t give up. We have got games to go and we will do everything we can to win them.

“On the last day of the season, we will know what has gone on. You never know. A title win will mean everything to everyone involved here and to all the fans. That is our aim and that is what we want to do. We will try and do everything to do that.”
