RHYS BREEN has thanked Lee Wallace for taking him under his wing at Rangers this term.

The former Ibrox captain has struggled to make an impact with Steven Gerrard’s side in recent months as his first team opportunities have been limited.

But Wallace has still had a role to play at the Hummel Training Centre as Breen and a series of highly-rated up-and-coming talents try to progress through the Light Blue ranks.

Boss Gerrard has urged his youngsters to make the most of their chance to impress and is keen to have them involved at first team level if they earn a shot.

Breen said: “All of the players take an interest in the younger players and they all come up and speak to you and help you.

“But Lee Wallace takes you in and sometimes after sessions he will send you a message to say well done or give you some advice in terms of what you have done well or what you can improve on.

“He takes a lot to do with the players coming through. He is just a great guy to speak to in general and he knows what he is talking about in a football sense.

“He is a great role model. It tells you a lot about him as a person.

“He doesn’t have to come and speak to me, or speak to anyone, about what they should do but he makes the effort and it helps to make us better players.

“The manager has made that clear and he has spoken to us to say that the pathway is there.

“As long as we work hard and keep progressing as players and people, you will get your chance round there.

“ I take nothing for granted and when I go round there you have to work so hard. It is brilliant and I come in here every day and I am loving it.”
