ODSONNE Edouard is a real talent of that there can be absolutely no doubt, but he has to show that talent on a more consistent basis for Celtic.

I really like him a lot, and it is easy to forget just how young he is, but there is also little doubt that Celtic just need a bit more from him in terms of becoming a reliable scorer of goals week-in, week-out.

There is certainly a player there, but I don’t think the lack of competition in his position has helped him to be at his sharpest.

He’s almost guaranteed a start regardless of performance, and while I would never say that he wasn’t putting in maximum effort in every game he plays, sometimes even subconsciously that can have an effect on players.

When you have to fight for your place and there is someone breathing down your neck for a starting jersey, that sometimes brings out the best in you on a more regular basis, and I think we will see the best of the young Frenchman if Celtic can bring in another quality striker in the summer to keep him on his toes.

That there wasn’t strong competition for the striker’s role this season wasn’t really anyone’s fault, because although Moussa Dembele was sold, you had the unfortunate and unforeseen absence of Leigh Griffiths in the latter part of the season too.

Even with Leigh making a welcome return to the fold though, I think it is a must that a third quality striker is brought in over the summer to not only add some more pedigree in attack themselves, but to keep the other two forwards on their toes and performing at their absolute best whenever they get a chance on the pitch.
