STEVEN GERRARD overhauled his Rangers squad last summer as 15 players were brought to Ibrox during his first weeks as Light Blues boss.

The rebuilding work won’t be as drastic second time around but Gerrard is still in the market for reinforcements following the deals for Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis.

Gerrard’s side return to pre-season action at the Hummel Training Centre in a fortnight and here we provide the latest on the players Rangers have been linked with.

With doubts over the future of Borna Barisic after just one season at Ibrox, a left-back will be one of the priority signings for Gerrard this summer. The Croatian hasn’t impressed since moving from Osijek and Rangers are unlikely to stand in his way if a deal can be done for him to leave. He won’t be replaced by Leighton Baines, though, after the Everton veteran was touted for a move across the border. Those internet rumours were quickly quashed and Baines has been offered a new contract at Goodison Park.

Swansea City full-back Martin Olsson has also been linked and is available on a Bosman deal. Nothing is imminent on that front, however, and his name has not been seriously spoken about at Ibrox.

That isn’t the case when it comes to George Edmundson. Rangers have already had three bids rejected by Oldham for the centre-half and are content to bide their time at present before going back to the negotiating table. Reports that the League Two club want £1million have been dismissed and Rangers won’t pay seven figures for the Englishman. If a deal can’t be done, Gerrard will move onto other defensive targets to replace Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley, with Chelsea's Tomas Kalas one name that has been rumoured recently.

When it comes to midfield additions, Davis has already been secured on a one-year deal from Southampton and he could be joined by Charlton’s Joe Aribo. Talks have taken place this week with the 22-year-old’s representatives as Rangers look to steal a march on a host of clubs that are chasing his signature. Celtic have been credited with an interest in Aribo, as have Southampton, Aston Villa and Frankfurt and there is plenty of work to be done before Rangers can be confident they will land the highly-rated playmaker.

At youth level, we revealed that Umaro Balde had committed his future to Rangers and the he will move from Sporting Lisbon. The midfielder has emerged through the ranks in Portugal and is now set to continue his career in Glasgow with the Gers’ second string.

With Jones and Hastie already on board, Gerrard has added strength and depth in the wide areas but more additions are likely on the flanks, especially with Eros Grezda in line for an Ibrox exit. Greg Stewart has agreed a pre-contract deal from Birmingham and is set to join Gerrard’s squad at their training camp in Portugal, while a move for Sheyi Ojo is also on the cards.

Rangers will have to wait to discover if they can land his Liverpool team-mate Ryan Kent, however. Kop boss Jurgen Klopp will run the rule over Kent this summer and if he decides to loan the winger out again then Rangers are in pole position to clinch a deal. If Liverpool look to cash in, Gerrard is likely to be out of the race as a potential fee of several million pounds will prove too much for Rangers to spend.
