THE departure of Lee Congerton from Celtic has hardly been mourned by most Celtic supporters, but I do feel that the role of Head of Recruitment is an important one for any club of Celtic’s stature.
Neil Lennon has shown in the past that he is a decent judge of a player, so it’s not necessarily a huge concern if he is left to do most of the business on his own this summer, but it always helps as a manager to have someone to bounce ideas off and get an opinion from that you can trust.
I used to have a similar thing with Tommy Burns, and I think that Neil could benefit from having somebody else’s input as well.
The answer may be staring Celtic in the face, because Willie McStay is someone that could be ideal for the role.
He is a man who not only knows a player, but he knows the club inside out and perhaps most importantly, knows the qualities required and what it takes to be a Celtic player.
For me, it’s a no-brainer.
