STEVEN GERRARD is set to clinch his sixth signing of the summer as George Edmundson prepares to put pen-to-paper on an Ibrox deal.

And he looks like being joined in Light Blue by Charlton midfielder Joe Aribo as Rangers attempt to get that move over the line in the coming days.

Rangers jet out to Portugal this weekend for a pre-season training camp and Edmundson will be on the plane as he prepares to complete a medical and then sign on the dotted line.

The Gers had two bids for the defender rejected by Oldham before Portsmouth made a move to land him earlier this month amid interest from Peterborough United.

But Edmundson has always had his heart set on a switch to Ibrox and will now get his wish to work with boss Gerrard after a fee of around £650,000 was accepted.

The move for Edmundson will be finalised in the next 48 hours and attentions will then turn to securing Aribo on a Bosman deal that will see Rangers pay a fraction of the compensation fee Charlton would be owed if the playmaker had moved to another English club.

Aribo will inform boss Lee Bowyer of his intention to leave The Valley at a meeting on Friday and Rangers are now increasingly confident of beating competition from England and abroad to land the highly-rated 21-year-old.

Rangers have already completed moves for Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie, Steven Davis, Greg Stewart and Sheyi Ojo this summer.

The deal for Stewart was confirmed last week following his departure from Birmingham City and he will be reunited with former Rugby Park team-mate Jones in the Ibrox attack.

Stewart spent the first half of last term on loan at Kilmarnock before moving to Aberdeen but he couldn’t help the Dons finish ahead of Steve Clarke’s side in the Premiership.

The forward will have far greater ambitions this term as he looks to make an impact in Light Blue and he won’t need to wait long for his first taste of Ibrox action as Gerrard’s side embark on their Europa League campaign next month.

Stewart told RangersTV: “The nights are unbelievable, and growing up, I went to games in the Champions League, and it’s brilliant as a fan, but I can just imagine what it is going to be like as a player to play here at Ibrox.

“I felt the team did unbelievably well last year, and if we can do even better this year then great.

“It means the world to me to get the opportunity to play for this club and the boys have welcomed me in brilliantly.

“I want to be a good team player, work hard and try to create chances for the team. If I can chip in with some goals as well, then that will be great and that will be my aim.

“It is a dream, really. To get the opportunity at this age, I feel I am at a great age and I am coming into my peak in the next three or four years.

“So to get this opportunity, I now need to grasp it. I am excited at the opportunity and what the club is going to do this season.”
