Kenny Miller hopes to forget 'hard few years' at Partick Thistle

The 39-year-old has joined the Firhill club on a one-year deal and yesterday flew out to meet up with his new team-mates at their La Manga training base.

Miller left Dundee by mutual consent earlier this week after losing out to James McPake for the vacant manager’s position at Dens Park.

And the veteran marksman is keen to get back enjoying the short time he has left playing following a tumultuous two seasons.

The former Scotland striker left Rangers under a cloud last summer after being fined and suspended by the club in April 2018 – a decision overturned on appeal to the SPFL.

Miller then lasted six weeks as player/manager at Livingston and was part of a Dundee side that finished bottom of the Premiership last term.

Miller said: “It’s been a hard few years, everyone says when you get to my age play for as long as you can and enjoy it, but I’ve not really enjoyed it the last few years to be honest.

“It’s been tough through various situations that have arisen but part of the excitement of this move is the fact I know there is someone here who is a strong character and is very good at what he does.

“I’m absolutely delighted to come here and work with a good friend and someone who I am really excited to come and work with.

“It was massive for me because I want to work with good people and also people who are very good at what they do.”

Miller, who scored nine goals in a total of 42 appearances for both Livingston and Dundee last term, added: “I’ve spoken to Gary over the last four or five years since he’s made that transition to management and right from the start I knew he had what it took.

“The detail he goes into and how he speaks about football aligns how I see football and I’m really excited to come and work with him and play for Partick Thistle, and hopefully we can get back promoted to the Premiership, also through winning the league - I want to be successful.”
