Ex-Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn reckons his former employers can rattle Celtic this year and win the Scottish Premiership.

The Hoops' domination has witnessed them win eight league titles in a row - and they've set their sights on nine.

But Derby ace Waghorn, 29, believes this campaign could be huge for Steven Gerrard's men.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Waghorn said: "I genuinely believe this year is a big year for Rangers.

"I think they've done a fantastic bit of business over the summer.

"I watched the game yesterday, they looked very good and very strong."

Waghorn left Ibrox for Ipswich Town two years ago before going on to win a big money deal at the iPro Stadium under Frank Lampard.

Yet neither move has stopped him keeping tabs on his former side.

He watched them through tough times as Brendan Rodgers and then Neil Lennon continued to win trophies across the city.

Though he is sure current Light Blues manager Steven Gerrard can steer his side to silverware.

He added: "I just believe the manager they've got, a year under the belt, a year down the line, they've got a right good chance and I hope they can do it.

"Hopefully they've got a chance and I believe they've got a chance."
