Alex Jones is excited about the prospect of forming a productive striking partnership with Kenny Miller as he prepares to make his Partick Thistle debut tonight.

And the 24-year-old former Bradford star says he will be quite happy to do all the running for 39-year-old Miller.

Jones clinched a deal at the weekend after being sold on a move to Maryhill by Gary Caldwell.

And he’s really excited about relaunching his career after injuries wrecked his time with the Bantams as Jags meet Queen's Park at Airdrie.

Jones said: “I know Kenny Miller by reputation, of course, and just watching him on Saturday against Airdrie you could see his quality. He’s the next level and I can’t wait to play beside him.

“He hasn’t asked me to do his running for him yet but I’m sure he will further down the line!”

Jones was signed at Bradford by Stuart McCall in 2016 and slammed 15 goals in 37 games as City agonisingly lost the League One play-off final to Millwall.

He was struck down by a serious ankle injury the following season and didn’t get a look in under Simon Grayson or David Hopkin when he came back.

Jones rekindled his enthusiasm with a loan spell at League Two Cambridge United n the second half of last season and says he maintained his fitness levels over the summer.

He said: “The first season at Bradford was great and the club got to the play-off final but we just missed out on promotion.

“Then I got injured in the second season and it was difficult. When you’re out for a long time it’s difficult to get going again.

“It came about that it would be better to go out on loan to Cambridge and that was good for me because it gave me regular football again.

“I met the manager about a week or so ago and he sold it to me straight away.

“We got it all sorted out late Friday night and I was on an early flight on Saturday.

“It was a bit frustrating that I couldn’t be involved on Saturday in the Airdrie game but football is like that at times,

“So now I’m just looking to getting started, hopefully on Tuesday night against Queen’s Park.

“The way the lads play will suit me – passing football on the deck – so hopefully I can add something.”
