Leigh Griffiths has told of his relief at being allowed a "clean slate" at Celtic Park this season as he aims to get back to his free-scoring form under Neil Lennon.

Griffiths has battled demons off the field since last season and was given a leave of absence to help get himself in a better place mentally.

The striker was given a heroes ovation after coming off the bench in the Hoops' 2-1 win over Sarajevo last week.

And he recalled the conversation between himself and manager Lennon where he knew he could come back better than ever.

He said: "When [Lennon] got the job it was a big relief for me because he's someone who has gone through it himself.

"He said this season was a clean slate, to go and show everyone that I can still be a top player.

"That's what I intend to do."

On the welcome back he received from Hoops fans at Parkhead last week, Griffiths added: "The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up.

"It was a moment I've waited on for a long time. It's done with now and I look forward to the future."
