Rangers legend Alex Rae rolled back the years in Thomas Buffel's testimonial match - by scoring a belter from his own half.

The former Ibrox midfielder played in the engine room alongside the man of the hour at Racing Genk's Cristal Arena.

Picking up the ball inside his own half the 49-year-old thumped it from just before the centre circle and sent it looping over the goalkeeper who had been way off his line.

And he joked that he'd never done anything like duringĀ his near-20 year career.

He said: "I've had 700 first-team games and I've never scored from the halfway line but there's always a first.

"That's the great thing about coming to events like this, you can have an opportunity to try something different."

Other famous faces were also in attendance in Belgium to mark the occasion including ex-Rangers and Scotland manager Alex McLeish and Pierre Van Hooijdonk.
