STEVEN Gerrard insists questions over Alfredo Morelos’ future at Rangers can only be directed towards the striker and that the decision on his Ibrox career rests on his shoulders.

Italian giants AC Milan scouted Morelos during Rangers’ Europa League wins over St Joseph’s and Progres Niederkorn at Ibrox over the last fortnight.

The Colombian has been linked with a series of clubs and Rangers could face a fight to hold onto the 23-year-old if a significant multi-million pound bid is made before the close of business.

Gerrard said: “Alfredo is a huge part of what we are trying to do here. Instead of me answering this question every single press conference, I’m going to do everything I can to put Alfredo in front of you guys.

“Then you can ask him the question whether he wants to be part of this going forward. I can only say I want him to be part of it. The decision lands with Alfredo.

“I’m sure now that he has been in this country two or three years, he knows ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. So can we have Alfredo up here please to stop me having to answer the question every time. I’ll do my best for you.”

While the future of Morelos is still unclear as the likes of Frankfurt and West Ham United track him this summer, there is no chance of Eros Grezda playing any further part for Rangers.

French side Brest are one of the sides interested in a deal for the Albanian winger and boss Gerrard said: “We’ve had two or three loan requests for Eros but they don’t satisfy what we are looking for at the moment.”

It has been an encouraging few weeks for Gerrard as Rangers have seen off Oxford and Marseille in bounce games and hit 12 goals without reply in their Europa League wins over St Joseph’s and Progres.

After drawing with Blackburn Rovers last weekend, Rangers went one better against another Championship side as Nikola Katic netted the only goal of the game in Sunday’s win over Derby County.

The Light Blues travel to Luxembourg for their return leg against Progres this week before starting their top flight title bid against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Gerrard said: “Twelve months on, it’s only natural to have a better feel for the challenges that are going to come your way.

“I’m very much a person who tries to analyse and learn from my mistakes. I know my staff are doing everything they can to learn from where we went wrong last season, where we misjudged.

“So, of course, we are more prepared in terms of knowing what is coming. But the difficult thing is to go and prove we have improved, that we are a better team and have progressed.

“Everyone has pushed hard to get themselves in good condition. You saw from the performance today that we look as ready as we can be.

“Without being disrespectful, with some of the challenges we have had so far we should be keeping clean sheets.

“A lot of the games we put in place are to get the cobwebs off and get a feel for it again.

“But Derby were 90 minutes away from the Premier League. Yes, they’ve lost Mason Mount and Harry Wilson who are excellent players. But they have a £9 million centre-forward and I get if Tom Lawrence was to leave, he’d be worth £12-15 million.

“They have millions of pounds worth of players all over the pitch. They played their strongest team today and are a week away from their season starting, so no-one can say it’s because we are ahead of them from a fitness point of view.

“We’ve had really good, tough tests. Blackburn were fit and aggressive, we should have beat them. We were ahead of Marseille from a fitness point of view but their budget is bigger, their players earn hundreds of thousands more than my players do.

“So credit to the players, they’ve had a really strong pre-season. But you know what you get for that - absolutely nothing. So now it’s time to reset and go again next week.”
