ALL the talk ahead of the tie with Progres Niederkorn was about what happened two years ago but Rangers put that to one side and just got the job done.

It could have been over after the first leg at Ibrox and another goal last week would have made Thursday even more comfortable.

The only thing that matters at this stage is getting through and I thought Steven Gerrard called in perfectly in his post-match comments.

It wasn’t a great game to watch, it wasn’t a great performance. But Rangers got the result that they needed and got through to the third qualifying round.

Steven will know that Rangers need to step it up again when they face Midtjylland and he will be confident that there is plenty more to come over the next few weeks.

The manager has a lot of thinking to do in terms of the team selections because he has that many options at his disposal right now. But that is certainly a good position for him to be in and you will see more from Rangers as they get fitter and sharper.
