Chelsea legend Pat Nevin reckons ex-Rangers kid Billy Gilmour has already impressed his Stamford Bridge teammates - and that they already trust the youngster.

Gilmour featured during Chelsea's pre-season games in Ireland against Bohemians and St Pat's Athletic and didn't look out of place in their star-studded lineup.

The likes of Michy Batshuayi, Pedro and Davide Zappacosta all starred for the Blues in the same matches under new boss Frank Lampard.

But it was Gilmour at just 19 who stood out.

And Nevin - who spent five years as a Chelsea player - reckons Gilmour must take every chance he's presented with in the first-team.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Nevin said: "One of the things that will help is if [Gilmour] gets that fluke chance, as it were.

"There might be a couple of injuries to other players or a cup game and you get your chance.

"If you take it well or score a goal, it's about grabbing that chance and keeping it.

"It's so easy to say but hard to do.

"When that chance comes you need to be there, be ready and the fittest you've ever been.

"What is noticeable from the games he's played is that the players trust him.

"That's a big thing. He has to keep working at that and maybe this season he will get that tiny opportunity.

"I just hope he doesn't get it when he has an injury or it's a tough day or Chelsea are having a bad time."
