Celtic icon Pierre van Hooijdonk has had his say on Harry Maguire's record-breaking move to Manchester United from Leicester City.

One of the Hoops' three amigos seemingly couldn't believe the Red Devils' decision to splash a whopping £80million on the England centre-half.

The former attacker even compared Maguire to Juventus' new signing Matthijs de Ligt who himself recently moved from Ajax to The Old Lady for 75 million euros - or around £70m.

Taking to social media, van Hooijdonk wrote: "Harry Maguire to ManU for 85 mil euro, when Mathijs de Ligt joined Juventus for 75 mil euro..."

And he showed exactly what he made of the transfer, accompanying his post with a laughing emoji.

His tweet racked up thousands of likes and shares.

And plenty of supporters agreed with his opinion.

One said: "The big man has a great point."

Another added: "Mental."

Others criticised the thoughts and backed Maguire as a "more accomplished" acquisition.

One said: "Maguire more experienced and premier league proven".

A second added: "Maguire has World Cup experience. What does De Ligt has?"

One wrote: "De Ligt has only ever played in the Eredivisie, Maguire is premier league proven."
