ELHAMED: Booked for a foul in the opening half but had a header at the start of the second period well saved by Giedrius Ariauskis as Celtic tried to lift the tempo immediately after the restart. 6

SIMUNOVIC: Under pressure throughout and toiled to cope with the threat of Billel Omrani. 6

AJER: One furious clash with Mateo Susic after the Cluj player went through the back of Olivier Ntcham but an eye-opening night against a streetwise Cluj side. 6

MCGREGOR: Looked desperately uncomfortable in the left-back berth and caught out with the cross that led to Ciprian Deac’s goal midway through the opening half. Got himself into more forward positions in the second period to Celtic’s benefit. 6

BROWN: Handled in the box in the second-period to give Cluj the gift of a penalty which Omrani duly dispatched. Replaced in the latter stages. 6

NTCHAM: Had a couple of nice touches as Celtic were going forward but as a team the Parkhead side never had a firm grip of the game at any point. 6

FORREST: Another European goal for the winger. Dragged Celtic back into the tie when he converted McGregor’s cutback but proved to be of little relevance. 6

CHRISTIE: Got himself on the scoresheet when he got in to convert Edouard’s cutback but celebrations were shortlived. 6

JOHNSTON: Got forward to unleash one effort from distance in the opening period but largely a frustrating night for the winger. 6

EDOUARD: Impressive again at times with two assists and one goal but frustrating for the striker that his efforts were undone by a lack of composure at the back. 7

MORGAN: On for Johnston but no real chance to put his mark on the game. 4

GRIFFITHS: On as Celtic tried to chase a late winner but too little, too late. 4

BAYO: Another who arrived in latter stages but little time to have any influence. 3
