Rangers star Joe Aribo's move to Ibrox has been questioned again - this time by former Charlton boss Chris Powell.

Current Addicks manager Lee Bowyer wasn't shy in criticising the midfielder over his decision to leave the English Championship for the Scottish Premiership.

And now Powell has weighed in on the switch, claiming Aribo should have opted to stay with Charlton because he won't be troubled too much at Gers in the league - unless they're playing Celtic.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Powell said: "I really like Aribo - his style and the way he plays.

"I'm quite surprised he's gone to Scotland.

"He's young and I just felt that we should have seen some of him in the Championship.

"He's gone to a league where you're tested because you're the favourites - apart from when you play Celtic.

"Maybe the chance to play under Gerrard attracted him

"But who knows, he could come back in two or three years.

"I'm surprised he's done it and I wanted him to stay at Charlton if I'm honest."
