Arsenal star Kieran Tierney has told of his pride at being the first Scot to represent the Gunners since 1998.

Ex-Celtic star Tierney joined his new teammates in London after completing a record-breaking £25m move from Parkhead this summer.

The left-back had been tracked by Unai Emery for a number of months and the deal was finally completed on deadline day.

In doing so, KT became Arsenal's first player from north of the border since Edinburgh-born ex-Celt Scott Marshall played at Highbury between 1991-1998.

And he revealed his delight at the milestone.

Speaking to Arsenal's club website, the 22-year-old said: "It's massive for me as well [being the first Scotsman since 1998]"

"I'm proud and delighted to be here, so it's all good.

"I work hard, that's all I can say: I work my hardest every game, I give all I've got and I wear my heart on my sleeve all the time.

"That is honestly all I can give.

"I’ll be looking forward to hopefully get a partnership with whoever is on the left and whoever is centre-back - partnerships all over the pitch and friendships too."

Meanwhile Tierney's comeback has hit a snag as the Gunners revealed he will remain sidelined until at least early October.

Giving an update on their new man, they said of Tierney: "Groin. Continues to receive treatment and further assessments. Aiming to participate in full training in October."

Tierney joined fellow crocked player Hector Bellerin in light work last week as the EPL side's coaches worked with the Scotland cap for the first time on the training pitch.
