STEVEN GERRARD will make changes to his team for the Betfred Cup tie with East Fife tomorrow but it certainly won’t be a weak side that takes to the field at Bayview.

Rangers, of course, are in the competition to win it.

Given the resources Steven now has at his disposal, he is able to make three, four or five alterations from game to game and it doesn’t seem to weaken the team at all. If anything, it strengthens it at times because the players that come in have to raise their game if they are to keep their spot again.

Right now, Rangers don’t have a best XI. So Steven can mix and match it again this weekend and still be confident the team has enough about it to get through to the next round.

There are a few players that haven’t had an awful lot of minutes recently so this is a chance for them to come in, try and get up to speed and to show what they can do.

It is also a chance to rest some of the more established players and keep them fresher going into the Europa League tie with Legia Warsaw just a few days later.

There will be changes, but the manager won’t allow the standards to drop or the performance levels to drop and the players can’t afford to let that happen either.

Anyone that comes in and doesn’t perform will know it could be a few weeks before they get another shot so their attitude has got to be spot on.

No player is happy when they aren’t playing but if you get an opportunity against East Fife you have to make the manager think because there are some big games coming up over the next couple of weeks that everyone in the squad will want to be involved in.
