FC Midtjylland manager Kenneth Andersen has quit his job as boss in the wake of their Europa League loss to Rangers.

The Denmark outfit were convincingly beaten by Steven Gerrard's Light Blues in a 7-3 aggregate win for Gers.

The Dane, 51, will remain at FC Midtjylland but will work with the academy side.

Speaking to the club website, Andersen explained his decision to resign from the top job.

He said: "When I jumped in a year ago, almost from one day to the next, to replace Jess Thorup as head coach, I made the condition that we should evaluate the situation after working at the head coach post for a while.

"I took on the task because I am the club's man and passionate about FC Central Jutland.

"Lately, I have looked myself deep in the eyes and have recognised that I like to develop youth players better in the Academy.

"I am not true to myself and my nature in relation to what it takes to be a head coach, and in the long run it becomes too tiring".

Brian Priske has taken the role on an interim basis and joins with the club sitting second in the Superliga - two points behind FC Copenhagen.
