Ex-Celtic ace Simon Donnelly shut down a Rangers fan on social media after they wrongly claimed Gers beat the Hoops to the Scottish Premier Division title back in 1998.

A video shared online by 90s Football showed Donnelly's former teammate Paul Lambert leather home a stunning strike against the Light Blues on January 2, 1998, to help his side to a 2-0 win at Parkhead.

Fans were quick to hail the strike, but one misinformed Gers fan thought they'd managed the last laugh when they said: "And the Famous Glasgow Rangers won the league that year".

But immediately hundreds of fans jumped on the comment with their corrections - including Donnelly.

He simply said: "Naw they didnae".

Donnelly's post earned thousands of likes and shares, with a number of Celtic fans lapping it up.

One said: "If you know your history, indeed."

Another added: "Stick it right to them Simon."

A Rangers title win that year would have handed them a record-breaking tenth title in a row.

Wim Jansen's Hoops halted Gers' dominance, however, winning the league and cup double.
