Arsenal chief Josh Kroenke claims the Gunners still have an "aura" after attracting big names to the Emirates Stadium - including Celtic star Kieran Tierney.

Tierney signed a long-term deal in London this summer in a record-breaking £25million transfer.

Celtic revealed following the move that they desperately tried to keep hold of the defender.

They claimed it was KT who actively pursued a move to the English Premier League with Unai Emery's men.

The Hoops said in a statement at the time: "We did all we could to keep Kieran at Celtic.

"While the club did not need or wish to sell Kieran, this was an opportunity which Kieran very much wished to pursue and with the club having received a significant offer, we have agreed to the transfer."

And now Arsenal director Kroenke has told of his pride at attracting big players - as it highlights Arsenal's power in the market.

Speaking to BBC Sport he said: "This summer, even though we weren't in a position of strength coming out of Baku, I think there were a few people caught off guard that Arsenal Football Club still has the aura that it does.

"We're excited to keep pushing that now and into the future.

"I would say that if you're reacting and doing club-record signings based on public opinion, you're not going to go very far as a club."

As well as Tierney, Arsenal splashed the cash on Nicolas Pepe, David Luiz and Gabriel Martinelli.

Real Madrid's Dani Cabello also signed on loan.

And Kroenke hinted that there may well be more business done in January.

He added: "We've got to evaluate some things in the short term and figure out where we might need to address going forward, so when January does roll around we're going to be proactive again."
