Scotland star Oli McBurnie has been blasted by furious members of the Tartan Army after he was caught saying 'I hope not' when allegedly asked if he'd been called up for Scotland.

McBurnie, 23, was picked by Steve Clarke for the national squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Russia and Belgium.

Sheffield United's £20million man was filmed in conversation with ex-Rangers starlet John Fleck on his club's TV channel seemingly discussing the international set-up.

Steve Clarke: Give my Premier League new boys time to prove their worth

Fleck asks: "Are you going away?", to which McBurnie responds "I hope not."

The pair are understood to be chatting about Scotland.

McBurnie asks Fleck: "Are you injured?" before adding: "Are you going to make me go on my own?"

The forward incurred the wrath of furious Scots who slammed his "disinterested" manner.

In the short 18-second piece of footage, one person can also be heard saying "It's s****".

However it is not known which player said it.

Unforgiving fans have now called for manager Steve Clarke to resist picking McBurnie in future.

One blasted: "Honestly f***ed me off so much. There’s me and the boys spending a fortune going to Russia and this guy can’t be f***ed. Disgraceful."

Another sniped: "Get him bumped."

One slammed: "He's tragic, shouldn't be called up anyhow".

A fourth added: "That's shocking and tbh he should never play for Scotland again if that's his attitude!"

Others weren't so concerned.

It comes a short time after Leigh Griffiths was left out of the squad over fitness concerns.
