EUROPEAN football is so important for Rangers as a club and of course there is a financial benefit of reaching the Europa League for the second consecutive season under Steven Gerrard.

But it is about what it means to the manager, to the players, the staff and the supporters.

It is all about prestige and Rangers, as a club, need to be playing European football regularly.

When you think where we were just a couple of seasons ago, and when things were even worse a few years before that, to be at this point is some achievement for Rangers.

There are three more big European nights to come at Ibrox now and six ties for Steven and the players to really look forward to.

You could tell how much it meant to the manager on Thursday night and you can’t underestimate the impact he has had at Ibrox.

Rangers will hopefully make a few quid out of this European run and that will help on and off the park.

But Thursday was so important for the club as a whole. It was a great night.
